A tribute to American astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt (July 4, 1868 – December 12, 1921). While working at Harvard College Observatory, Leavitt discovered the period-luminosity relationship for Cepheids.
Text from “The Star in the Window: A Novel” (Olive Higgins Prouty, 1918) used to create a poem. Painted bottle cap in painted/chalked canvas frame backing.
Poem fragments from an old magazine (Graham’s Illustrated Magazine of Literature, 1843) glued onto old artist’s conception of the lunar landscape (from Recreations in Astronomy by H. D. Warren D. D., 1879).
