Lull

Close-up of one of Ragnar Kjartansson’s miniature set designs
From the camera roll
when I wasn’t drawing,
this photo
of someone else’s art:
a sea widening
past an inlet
into the sea foam green
I love,
an island
perhaps with sea birds
some uncertain distance away.
I stopped because
the waves would knock me over.
I stopped because
I wasn’t a strong-enough swimmer.

Your writing, always precise and brief, is nonetheless so evocative and powerful.
Thanks so much!
